Where to start with designing your wedding stationery

One of the first things most couples do once they have booked a venue is start to think about sending out wedding invitations. However so many couples come to me with nervous trepidation as they don’t know where to start! Pinterest is a blessing and a curse, it is amazing for inspiration but can also be overwhelming and before you know it you end up down a pinterest black hole!

One of my couples once said to me that they wanted their wedding invitations to be perfect because it was the first hint for their guests of what their wedding would be like, that has always stuck with me as I think its very true!

The amazing thing about having your wedding invitations designed is that they can be anything you want them to be and a true reflection of you as a couple.

Here are my top tips for having your wedding invitations designed and made:

1.What do you want your wedding invitations to say about your wedding? Will your wedding be a relaxed, informal day in the middle of a field or will it be a glamorous affair in a stately home? The style of your invitation should reflect that, you don’t want a guest turning up in a full length ballgown if you are having a festival style wedding in a tipi!

2.Let your wedding invitation be a reflection of you as a couple-If flowers aren’t your thing but starwars is then go for it!If everyone knows you as that quirky fun couple then have your wedding invitation reflect that. Do what you want not as you feel you SHOULD be doing..its your day!

3.Consider cost-If you have a budget your wedding invitations can still be beautiful and unique, just let your designer know ahead of time so that they can advise options. I have a whole heap of ways to create beautiful stationery that will fit into every budget.

4.Consider how you will be delivering them-If the vast majority need to be posted consider your postage costs, which will be dependant on size and weight. You don’t want a nasty shock at the post office!

5.Decide what info you would like to include-If you have all the information upfront that you need to include it will help the designer to know how much space they have to play with.Do you need to include accommodation details, travel details, would a map be helpful?Gift list?Do your guests need to pick a menu option?I have a helpful checklist i send out to all my couples when designing so that we can ensure we don’t miss any information you may need to include!

Above all, enjoy the process!
